“And lo, God passed by. There was a great and mighty wind; splitting mountains and shattering rocks by the power of the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake fire; but the lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, the soft barely audible sound of almost breathing. 1 Kings 19:11-12.

Earthquake. Wind. Fire.
It could be news headlines almost any day.

Clutter. Noise. Activity.
So often the substance of our days.

And we long for clarity, silence, stillness.
We yearn for it.

And it is there all the time.
Underneath.

Not separate from the living of our days,
Not either/or
No “but” about it.

The Underneath is
As close as our breath.
The soft barely audible sound of almost breathing

So, when next the earthquake, wind and fire comes

When next the clutter, noise and activity prevails

Know  the soft barely audible sound
of almost breathing
is passing by.

You’ll know it in your own breath.
