Description
The Showings Individual Spiritual Study is offered with Julian of Norwich as our 14th century guide. Her words and images, while unique to her, help open our eyes to the defining vision of our life and to everyday showings of the divine.
The writing of Julian of Norwich is increasingly known in our day. Perhaps her medieval world bears resemblance to our time or maybe her sense of spirituality speaks to the heart-longing of our century. Like most saints, this ancient mystic provides us with a question: What do you want, what do you really need? Her book, Showings, was the first book to be written by a woman in English.
While we will learn more about the path of Julian of Norwich and her particular way of experiencing the Holy, this Individual Spiritual Study explores how we live in the world “in well and woe” and how seeing the world through the eyes of Love changes our experience.
These themes are explored in four sessions:
- Defining Visions
- Only Love
- In Well and Woe
- Everyday Showings
What you receive:
- A downloadable guide you can copy. There are four sessions and each one contains a suggestion for settling into a time of study and reflection, a reflection on the theme, journal questions/ideas for creative expression, and a suggested spiritual practice.
Once you register and payment is processed, you receive an email with the Showing Guide. You simply download and print.
A Prayer Bench Individual Study is an excellent resource for a time of personal retreat or day away, a time of Continuing Education, or a spiritual re-focusing in the midst of everyday life and work.
Please note: This Spiritual Study is adapted from the Fall 2017 Email Retreat received by Prayer Bench subscribers.
