With the birth of Jesus, heaven and earth draw close. In the thin space, angels move back and forth. We may be so familiar with the Advent and Christmas stories that we forget just how many angels appear. What attention can we give them?
The writer Richard Rohr says: “Don’t waste your time deconstructing your primitive belief about pretty, winged creatures in flowing pastel dresses. If you do so, you are seriously missing out on what they are pointing to.”
In this Advent Pathway, we focus on the angels of Advent and ask, “What possible meaning do these messengers have today?” If we let go our assumptions and popular images, what might we see? What might change? And how might this wondering ready our hearts to enter the Mystery?
What You Receive in this Advent Pathway
This Advent Pathway includes four emails, which you will receive on November 30, and December 7, 14, and 21. Each email will offer a brief reflection on the meaning of angels today, highlight one of the angels from the Advent story, provide a music video, suggest an Advent practice, and conclude with guided intercessory prayer.
