The mystics say that the root longing of our soul is for God. In this season of Advent, we listen to the poems written in Isaiah as words for our souls and as guidance for our congregations or small groups. We prepare for the One who is always coming into the world.
There are four sessions based on the lectionary readings in the Advent Revised Common Lectionary.
Session 1: The ‘Glorious Impossible’ is Possible. Isaiah 2:1-5
Session 2: All You Have to Do is Look – Isaiah 11:1-10
Session 3: Preparing for the Ordinary – Isaiah 35:1-10
Session 4: Oh, A Sign – Isaiah 7:1-16
This is a “low-tech” Small Group Study. The Leader visits a webpage with a password and then downloads and prints the Leader Pages. The Leader Page contains all you need to lead a one hour session. (The session is designed for one hour but you can adapt for a shorter or longer time.)
The LEADER Page contains:
Suggestions for Preparing the Space, a Welcome & Lighting a Candle, a Check in Suggestion, Suggestions of versions for reading the Poem of the Prophet, printed Entry Points, Questions for reflection, and a Group Spiritual Practice.
There is also a one-page PARTICIPANT Page with printed “Entry Points” to be read by the group during the session. The Entry points provide content to help spark conversation.
The website has supplemental resources for the Leader.
If you would like a sample of the LEADER PAGE for the first session, download it here: Session 1: The ‘Glorious Impossible’ is Possible
The cost of this resource is $25. That’s it. Any size group. Any number of groups on your pastoral charge/parish.
When you register you immediately receive an “order confirmation.” You will receive a second Email when your payment clears (usually within 24 hours and often sooner) with a weblink and password to a private webpage where you will find all your resources.
Helpful for Worship Leaders who want to do an Advent series on the Isaiah readings or individuals who want to follow the Isaiah readings on their own.
This Small Group Study is a revised edition of a previously offered Advent study with new content and delivery method.
