January blog

Hello all,

This is a space where I’ll offer some prompts, some practices, some quotes and some photos as we make our way through the year, verse by verse and book by book.

To start off here is the table of the groupings of reflections you can expect each month. Read: The Long Conversation Month by Month.

Here is a photo sent from Jo Burgess. She titles it: “Holiness … and the fragrance is heavenly!” It comes out of her reflection on Leviticus. You may want to use it to practice Visio Divina. Here is a guide for this practice: Visio Divina: Sacred seeing

A podcaster by the name of Rich Villodas (I haven’t listened to him, I just liked his summary on Threads.)

“The story of scripture in four phrases repeated throughout its pages:
I love you.
I am with you.
Don’t be afraid.
Come home.”

This resonates with me. It’s what I am listening for as I write.

Cindy S. Lee encourages a slow reading of scripture. You might want to choose your favourite verse from each Book of Scripture and follow her guidance.

“The purpose is … to let the words linger in your soul. Let the words come to you throughout the day. Do not move on to another passage until the words form you or until the words change you. This means you may be meditating on the same passage for a month or even a full year. You are measuring not by the time it takes to read the words but by the transforming work the words are doing in you. — Excerpt from: “Our Unforming: De-Westernizing Spiritual Formation” by Cindy S. Lee.

  1. Nice encouragements, thanks!

  2. Still enjoying these reflections each month. I’m keeping a hard-copy journal, highlighting, writing & drawing therein.

Just want to say how poignant January’s Deuteronomy reading still is for me. “You have stayed long enough at this mountain.” God’s encouragement in my imminent moving on is great. New things ahead – deeper – unknown – all in His hands – listening – loving Him – loving life.

    Thank you
