New Testament blog

Hello all,

This is a space where I’ll offer some articles, some videos, some quotes and some photos as we make our way through The New Testament.

The Four Gospels

We are now reading reflections for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The verses may be more familiar to you.

You might enjoy The Practice of Gospel Contemplation. Here is the practice in a nutshell.

  1. Select a short narrative passage of scripture.
  2. Relax and settle into God’s presence.
  3. Read aloud the passage several times.
  4. Set the bible aside and allow yourself to take part in the scene, using the imagination.
  5. Immerse yourself in the scene.
  6. After the prayer period make a review, reflecting on what took place during prayer.

Here is a great site with more information and several guided examples from Pray as You Go. Visit Imaginative Contemplation.

If you are interested in Commentary on specific passages, you may find the Working Preacher site helpful. You can choose by book and chapter. See Commentary Bible Index.

The Letters

Here is an interesting video offering information on the literary context of the 21 Letters from The Bible Project. View Here.

The Letters were written to be read aloud. Bible Gateway now has an Audio Player. Use the dropdown menu to choose what translation you want to here, then choose the book or letter of the Bible,  and then chapter of the Bible. Bible Gateway: Audio Bibles.
