“Christ Jesus is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn of all creation.
For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth,
the visible and the invisible,
whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers;
all things were created through him and for him.
He is before all things,
and in him all things hold together. – Colossians 1:15-17

Savour the hymn. This is the mystical Paul trying to hold Cosmic Mystery in a few radiant words. This is Paul – all of us really – seeing before we see, knowing before we know, sensing with the heart the Mystery pulsing through all creation. This is Christ Jesus manifesting as Love before time, in the belly of the stars, and in the beating heart.

Savour the words. If Jesus is too small, they won’t make sense. Let go. And then, for a moment you see. “In him all things hold together.”

Perhaps it is the poets and the artists who get it most easily. Watch. Listen. Return to the Colossians hymn, slow-read it: Colossians 1:15-20.  This is Love’s Way, when all things hold together.
